Five million vaccinated: Hungary relaxes measures

Hungary is easing CoV precautions after the country passed the five million mark in first-time vaccinations yesterday. Mandatory open-air masking and nighttime exit restrictions have been scrapped. Mouth-to-nose protection must now only be worn in enclosed public spaces such as stores and public transport.

However, tourist travel to Hungary is still generally not possible – except for people who have been vaccinated in a country whose vaccination certificates Hungary recognizes. Currently, these are Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey and Bahrain.

Hungary’s government, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, does not make relaxations of CoV measures dependent on the incidence of the virus, but only on vaccination coverage. Not only EU-approved vaccines are being vaccinated, but also vaccines from Russia and China.

The 14-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 population in Hungary was recently 148, which was in the middle range for the EU. However, the covid-19 mortality rate of 133.58 per 100,000 population within two weeks was the highest in the EU. About 9.8 million people live in the country.
